Kitchen Volunteers & Dishwashers – MIALS

Position: Kitchen Volunteers & Dishwashers  
Location: Mayne Island, BC  
Type: On-Call, Volunteer  

About the Role:
Mayne Island Assisted Living Society (MIALS) is seeking passionate and reliable volunteers to assist our kitchen team in preparing/packaging meals and washing dishes with our Meals on Wheels and Lunch Bunch teams. As a Kitchen Volunteer you will play a crucial role in delivering nutritious and filling meals to older adults within our community. This is an on-call volunteer position but generally our kitchen teams volunteer each Wednesday and the First and Third Thursday each month for 3-4 hour shifts.

Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation
Washing and Chopping Vegetables: Assisting with basic food prep such as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables.
Cleaning and Sanitation
Dishwashing: Cleaning dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment and returning them to their proper places.
Sanitizing Surfaces: Ensuring all kitchen surfaces are clean and sanitized to maintain health standards.
Customer Service
Assisting in Serving: Helping with plating and serving food during busy periods.
Responding to Requests: Assisting chef and other kitchen team members with requested tasks promptly.

The role of Kitchen Volunteers is vital in ensuring that the kitchen operates efficiently and maintains high standards of cleanliness and organization. These tasks require attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions, and a willingness to work as part of a team.

Requirements:
– Willingness to sign a non-disclosure document
– Ability and willingness to work as a part of a volunteer team
– A caring attitude and desire to help older adults maintain their independence.

To express interest in becoming a Kitchen Volunteer, please complete our volunteer information package and submit a free online Criminal Record Check. While your check is being processed, our coordinators, Sue and Tracy, will schedule a meeting with you to discuss the role and answer any questions you may have.Once your application is approved, you will be added to our call list and contacted with a weekly volunteer call list. If you are available and agree you will receive any special instructions.

Note:
Please let us know ahead of time if you have any allergies that we should be aware of. Due to the kitchen team working with a variety of ingredients for our program participants, we do occasionally use high allergen ingredients such as nuts and wheat.
