Volunteering with MIALS is a fulfilling way to give back to your community while making a meaningful difference in the lives of older adults on Mayne Island. You’ll connect with wonderful people who share your values of compassion, community support, and helping others live independently!

Whether you’re a full-time or part-time resident, there are many ways to get involved—big or small. From offering companionship and helping with daily tasks to supporting social programs and transportation services, your time and effort will have a lasting impact.

Kitchen Volunteers & Dishwashers

MIALS is seeking passionate and reliable volunteers to assist our kitchen team in preparing/packaging meals and washing dishes with our Meals on Wheels and Lunch Bunch teams. As a Kitchen Volunteer you will play a crucial role in delivering nutritious and filling meals to older adults within our community. This is an on-call volunteer position but generally our kitchen teams volunteer each Wednesday and the First and Third Thursday each month for 3-4 hour shifts.

Volunteer Driver (Off-Island) (Paid Mileage)

MIALS is looking for caring and dependable volunteers to provide transportation for elderly residents to off-island medical appointments  and social engagements in the Victoria/Sidney area. As a Volunteer Driver, you’ll offer crucial support, helping older adults stay connected to vital services and maintain their independence. This flexible, on-call position reimburses mileage at CRA rates for BC, with ferry costs covered by the client. This role includes the supervision of the MIALS bookkeeper and the management of all aspects of the organization’s insurance.
