Supporting Mayne Island Seniors to Live Well, Stay Connected, and Age in Place
Life on Mayne Island has always been about neighbours helping neighbours.
As our community ages, that spirit of care is being called on more than ever.
Today, 65% of Mayne Island residents are 55 or older, and nearly half of those aged 65+ live on low income.
Many live alone, without family nearby, and face challenges getting to medical appointments, affording healthy food, or staying socially connected.
That’s where the Mayne Island Assisted Living Society (MIALS) comes in — helping seniors remain independent and engaged through programs that bring care and connection closer to home.

The Need Is Growing
Mayne Island is one of the oldest communities in British Columbia — and many of our neighbours are quietly struggling.
Behind every number is a neighbour trying to stay independent — and stay on Mayne Island.
Care by the Numbers
MIALS programs continue to grow — and so does the need.
Here’s how far your support has taken us, and where we’re headed next year:
| Program | 2024 | 2025–26 (Projected) | % Increase |
| Meals & Lunch Bunch meals served | 940 | 1,200+ | 28% |
| Volunteer driver kilometres | 6,850 | 8,000+ | 17% |
| Creative Café & Lunch Bunch participants | 580 | 700+ | 21% |
| Friendly visits & check-ins | 410 | 500+ | 22% |
| Home supports & errands | 265 | 320+ | 21% |
Every number represents a neighbour cared for, a meal shared, or a connection made.
But with programs now at capacity, we need your help to meet growing demand.
