Honour a Life: A Heartfelt Evening of Remembrance at the Japanese Memorial Gardens

This holiday season, the Mayne Island Assisted Living Society (MIALS) invites you to come together in a special evening of remembrance at the serene and beautiful Japanese Memorial Gardens. On December 20, 2024, we will pause to honour the lives of loved ones who have passed away in a heartfelt gathering that embraces the spirit of community, reflection, and peace.
The “Honour a Life” event provides an opportunity to celebrate the memories of those who have left an indelible mark on our hearts. Whether it’s a family member, a dear friend, or a beloved animal companion, this is a time to acknowledge the love and connections that remain with us, even in their absence.

An Evening of Reflection and Connection
As dusk settles over the gardens, the soft glow of holiday lights will light the pathways, creating a tranquil atmosphere for quiet contemplation. Guests will have the chance to write messages, prayers, or names on memory ornaments provided at the event. These ornaments will be thoughtfully displayed on a tree, symbolizing the collective love and respect we hold for those we remember.

The gardens will resonate with the gentle sounds of acoustic music, provided by the Mayne Island Ukulele Club, offering a calming backdrop to this intimate occasion. A brief reading will be delivered, while open opportunities for sharing stories will allow attendees to connect with others who understand the experience of loss, or shared memories of an islander.

Details and Participation
The event begins at 4:00 PM and concludes at 6:00 PM. Warm refreshments, including coco and cider, will be available to keep the chill of the evening at bay. There is no cost to participate.
